Peace, balance, and energy, framed by stunning nature. Skarsnuten Mountain Resort & Spa, an invigorating ski and nature experience in Hemsedal, is set to join Nordic Hotels & Resorts. Taking place in our resort portfolio in May, 2025, Skarsnuten is an exciting addition that will expand our offer with a newly renovated resort, set in one of Norway’s most beautiful environments.

Nestled high up in the mountains of Hemsedal, Norway, Skarsnuten Mountain Resort & Spa has long been a bucket list destination among international ski enthusiasts. Now, the resort is set to join Nordic Hotels & Resort’s portfolio in May, 2025.

Sitting at 1002 meters above sea level, the hotel offers scenic views.

The ski and nature resort opened in 2003 to great acclaim, perched at 1002 meters above sea level and with panoramic views over Hemsedal. In recent years, the hotel has undergone a major renovation and expanded its offering further. It reopened in 2023 with 51 new rooms and a new spa area of 250 sqm. When joining Nordic Hotels & Resorts, it is taking place among other iconic ski and nature properties like Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Åre, Sweden; Norefjell Ski & Spa in Norefjell, Norway; and Riddergarden Mountain Lodge in Beitostølen, Norway.

– Skarsnuten Mountain Resort & Spa is a great example of our philosophy: unique experiences in unique destinations. This is the ideal basecamp when discovering all that the Norwegian mountains have to offer. Combined with timeless design, exciting culinary offerings, and a wellness approach in close connection to nature, they will be a fantastic addition to Nordic Hotels & Resorts, says Henrik Berghult, Chief Operating Officer at Nordic Hotels & Resorts.

Alpine Activities, All Year Round

Skarsnuten Mountain Resort & Spa offers 4 different room categories, spread over 88 rooms. The hotel has its own, indulgent spa area of 250 sqm, complete with a fitness room, indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, jacuzzi and an ice rink. The hotel’s conference facilities, like the Skurvefjell hall, has a capacity of up to 300 people. In addition, the hotel offers apartment rentals through Skarsnuten Apartments.

– It is with great pleasure that we now become part of the Strawberry family through Nordic Hotels & Resorts. This gives us the opportunity to collaborate with some of the Nordic region's most exciting and unique hotels, in combination with the strength and expertise that lies in one of the Nordic region's largest hotel companies. Together with our new colleagues, we will continue our work to strengthen our position both nationally and internationally, and consolidate our role as a year-round destination and a preferred choice for conferences and major events in the fantastic Norwegian nature, says Robert Norman, General Manager at Skarsnuten Mountain Resort & Spa.

An all year destination, the area of Hemsedal is known for its picturesque winters. Skarsnuten offers both downhill skiing and legendary off-piste driving. Cross-country enthusiasts also have access to over 250 km of easily accessible trails in the mountains and in the valley. During the warmer months, Hemsedal serves up possibilities for everything from slow days in the mountain sun to adventurous mountain hikes—or something in between.

Curious Gastronomy With Views to Boot

Despite being a remote destination, Skarsnuten Mountain Resort & Spa will never be found wanting when it comes to culinary options. The resort boasts no less than three food and beverage outlets, with the restaurant Lynx as its main dining hall. Here, Nordic elegance meets Italian flavors. The menu varies with the seasons, but the majestic views of nature are always included in the experience.

Restaurant Miru might be smaller in size, but packs a punch for all senses. This is where traditional Japanese flavors are reimagined with a modern, Nordic twist. Miru means “to see” in Japanese, a nod to the restaurant’s view of the beautiful Hemsedalsfjellet. In the Skarsnuten Bar, guests can quench their thirst with both cold and hot drinks. Whether it's taking a coffee break on the terrace, or picking out a new favorite from the bar’s extensive wine cellar, there is something for all the moods of the day.
