KG Hotel Opens in Klaksvík, Adding a New Landmark Resort to the Faroe Islands

A new gateway to the dramatic North Atlantic has opened. Today, the Faroe Islands' newest resort hotel, KG, welcomes its first guests in the town of Klaksvík. KG becomes a new landmark in one of the world's most remote destinations, leading with nature-centric design, hyperlocal dining and ocean-inspired wellness. 

A destination and a starting point, all at once. KG opens its doors as a nature-led resort, designed to be both a basecamp for adventurers and a wellness escape. Sitting in the heart of Klaksvík—the islands' second-largest town—this new resort marks a milestone for experience-led hospitality in the Nordics.

Built Around Exploration

KG is built around an idea of exploration. It is designed to be both a base for those who come to discover the islands, and a wellbeing destination in its own right. As outdoor and experience-led travel continues to grow worldwide, the hotel is ideally placed by the working harbor, making it easy to head out on a boat, set off on a hike along mountain trails, or simply turn inward in undisturbed surroundings. 

On the outside, the KG facade pairs wood, glass and concrete. Inside, the palette warms; the interior is led by oak, which lines the 83 guest rooms and carries through the public spaces, while carpeted corridors soften the building underfoot. Accommodating many kinds of travelers, the hotel offers standard rooms, two suites and a considered mix of family rooms, accessible rooms and rooms with connecting doors. At its center, an atrium draws the building together, complete with sitting stairs.

The name “KG” is rooted in the identity of Klaksvík. The name comes from the fishing boats that have symbolized the town for generations. "KG" is the port code for Klaksvík, which is why many of the fishing boats that have this as their home port are registered with the KG designation.

Experiencing the Islands Through Every Sense

Beyond the rooms, KG looks to the surrounding land and sea for inspiration in its food, drink and wellness. Dining unfolds at Sand, a connected duo of spaces that shift in mood throughout the day. Its main space, Sand Restaurant, serves Faroese seafood and grilled meats against a backdrop of striking water views. From day into night, the rhythm of Sand Café & Bar moves from casual to livelier, offering relaxed dining and handcrafted cocktails.

If Sand is the hotel's social heart, Alda Spa is its counterweight. Meaning "wave" in Faroese, Alda is a generous, deliberately calm wellness retreat, complete with a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, dedicated relaxation spaces, and two massage rooms. Its most distinctive chapter, however, is still to come. Later this year, Alda Spa expands outdoors with an open-air pool, an outdoor sauna, and a pier for winter bathing.

A New Horizon of Travel

As Klaksvík is the maritime and commercial hub of the Faroe Islands' northern isles, KG is built to host meetings and events with equal ease. Three meeting rooms and a flexible main venue accommodate events ranging from intimate meetings to gatherings of up to 500, with the fjord just outside the window.

For Eirikur Jákupsson, General Manager at KG, the hotel marks a new chapter in the history of the island nation. As the first resort in remote Klaksvík, it expands the horizons of travel in the Faroe Islands.

KG welcomes its first guests on 1 July 2026. The outdoor area of Alda Spa is set to open in a second phase on 1 October 2026. KG joins the resort portfolio of Nordic Hotels & Resorts, the largest and fastest-growing collection of independent hotels in the Nordics.
