KG Hotel, a Remote Design Outpost on the Faroe Islands, to Open in the Spring of 2026

In May, 2026, the new resort KG Hotel is set to open in the city of Klaksvík on the Faroe Islands. Joining the portfolio of Nordic Hotels & Resorts—the largest collection of independent hotels in the Nordics—the hotel is positioned as a new outpost for exploring one of the North Atlantic’s most striking destinations.

When it comes to travel, few places have gained popularity as fast as the Faroe Islands. As interest in nature-driven travel and cooler destinations continues to grow globally, this nation of 18 islands sitting between Norway, Iceland, and Scotland is increasingly attracting travelers seeking powerful experiences over polished escapism. It is here, in the second biggest city of Klaksvík, that a new resort for the adventurous explorer is opening: KG Hotel.

– KG Hotel captures the essence of what a contemporary resort can be. It is deeply connected to its location and designed to support exploration, whether that means hiking, sailing, or simply experiencing the intensity of Faroese nature. Klaksvík is an extraordinary place, and KG Hotel has the potential to become a natural gateway to the Faroe Islands, says Fredrik Blomberg, Chief Operating Officer at Nordic Hotels & Resorts’ Resort Division.

A New Basecamp in the North

Set at the innermost part of the fjord in Klaksvík, KG Hotel is surrounded by steep mountains, shifting weather, and the open ocean. The interiors of the modern building will be defined by natural materials like wood and concrete. At its heart lies a large, open lobby, designed to be alive throughout the day. This is where locals and travelers can meet before heading out to sea, up on the mountains, or back home again.

– KG Hotel is born out of the spirit of Klaksvík. The name comes from the fishing boats that have symbolized this town for generations. "KG" is the port code for Klaksvík, which is why many of the fishing boats that have this as their home port are registered with the KG designation. With KG Hotel, we wanted to create a place that feels open, generous, and grounded in who we are. This hotel will be a “new ship” for the people of Klaksvík and a welcoming home for the discerning guest from afar, says Johannes Jensen, General Manager at KG Hotel.

Beyond 83 sleek rooms, the hotel will house all the facilities of a contemporary resort. Alda Spa, which takes its name from the Faroese word for “wave”, is the hotel’s wellness area, complete with a relaxing outdoor pool, a large waterfront sauna, an indoor sauna and steam bath, and spaces for massages. In the restaurant Sand, guests will be able to dine with the fjord as their backdrop, and a large Meetings & Events venue overlooking the sea will take meetings to new heights. Together, these spaces will make KG Hotel a year-round destination—and a strong addition to Nordic Hotels & Resorts’ diverse portfolio.

The location of the new hotel is the perfect starting point when exploring the sharply distinct landscapes of the Faroe Islands’ northern reaches. As the second-largest town in the archipelago—with a population of around just over 5,000—Klaksvík serves as both a service centre for local communities and a practical launch point for visitors and residents alike. From here, future KG Hotel guests will be able to reach dramatic fjords, rugged mountain ridges, and coastal trails that characterize the Borðoy island and neighbouring islands.

The Maritime Spirit of Klaksvík

Klaksvík’s roots stretch back to the Viking Age. Originally, four farms were located where Klaksvík is now, which in time grew into four villages: Vágur, Myrkjanoyri, Gerðar and Uppsalir. These four villages finally merged to form the town of Klaksvík in 1938. The town soon became a driving force of economic and social progress in the Faroes. Seizing new opportunities in fishing, gifted entrepreneurs drew new inhabitants to the area. A vibrant and diverse industry and business sector remain the backbone of the municipality.

Fishing is a defining pillar of Klaksvik’s identity. Through the late 19th and early 20th centuries, its naturally sheltered harbour and expanding fleet positioned Klaksvík at the heart of the Faroese fishing economy. Today, Klaksvík is known not only as one of the Faroe Islands’ principal fisheries hubs—with a well-developed maritime infrastructure—but also as the Northern islands’ administrative and economic hub.

KG Hotel opens in May, 2026. It will operate as part of Nordic Hotels & Resorts’ resort portfolio.
