Amerikalinjen and Sommerro Recognized at the Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2025

Two of Nordic Hotels & Resorts’ Oslo icons have been recognized by Forbes Travel Guide. The adventurous Amerikalinjen and the opulent Sommerro are the only Norwegian hotels recommended in the Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2025—a prestigious award given to hotels that deliver exceptional service and quality.

Earlier this week, Forbes Travel Guide—the only independent, global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, spas and ocean cruises—revealed its 2025 Star Awards. The 67th annual list spans hotels worldwide, and this year Amerikalinjen and Sommerro are the only hotels in Norway featured on the list.

– We run hotels for people who want more than just a bed to sleep in. This is a fantastic recognition of the team at Amerikalinjen and Sommerro, and aligns perfectly with our goal to create hotel experiences that stay with guests long after they have checked out, says Henrik Berghult, Chief Operating Officer at Nordic Hotels & Resorts.

Two Oslo Icons

Since its opening in 2019, Amerikalinjen has set a new standard for boutique hotels in Oslo. The hotel, located in the former headquarters of Den Norske Amerikalinjen, combines the city's rich history with a vibrant pulse. Here, travelers and locals meet in an atmosphere characterized by warmth, culture and a touch of adventure. Or, as Forbes puts it:

“Amerikalinjen’s style tips a hat to American culture, namely the great jazz age, old Hollywood glam and the comfort of a cold Coca-Cola. It offers a basement jazz club inspired by such places in New York and festive jazz brunches.”

Head west from Amerikalinjen and you’ll find yourself at the undeniable “it” place of the Norwegian capital, Sommerro. This house of indulgence and its 231 rooms has quickly become a landmark in the Frogner neighborhood, and one of Oslo's most sought-after hotels. It’s a restored Art Deco gem with diverse restaurants, cultural venues, a rooftop terrace with views of the entire city, and the historic Vestkantbadet on the ground floor. Simply put: this is a place that celebrates both city life and well-being.

Forbes calls Sommerro a feast for the senses, saying that it “invites you to step into a world where art deco elegance meets contemporary comfort. This former 1930s headquarters of Oslo Lysverker, the city's electric company, has been lovingly transformed into a luxurious urban retreat that hums with history. When you cross the threshold, you're enveloped in a warm, golden glow — restored, original details nod to its heritage, while modern touches ensure it feels of the moment.”

About the Award

Forbes Travel Guide is one of the world’s most recognized hotel rankings, being the only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, spas and ocean cruises, and their restaurants. Amerikalinjen and Sommerro both received a Recommended status on this year’s list, meaning that these are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.

The guide’s anonymous inspectors evaluate hundreds of exacting standards, with an emphasis on exceptional service, to help discerning travelers select the world’s best experiences. The only way to get a Recommended rating is by earning it through their exacting inspection process.
