Introducing: Stockholm Sake Festival, Sweden’s first festival dedicated to sake, at TAK Stockholm

On May 10–11, 2025, Stockholm raises a glass to Japan’s most iconic drink as TAK Stockholm hosts Sweden’s first-ever Stockholm Sake Festival. This two-day celebration of sake culture brings together some of the world’s most acclaimed breweries—including Kobe Shu-shin-kan from Japan and Brooklyn Kura from the U.S—and experts for a festival designed to educate, inspire, and delight.

The Stockholm Sake Festival is the first of its kind in Sweden—entirely devoted to the Japanese rice wine that has amassed a global following. Held at renowned restaurant TAK Stockholm, the festival invites curious newcomers and seasoned connoisseurs alike to dive into the multifaceted world of sake. Through tastings, talks, and expert-led masterclasses, guests will get the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of, for example, brewing techniques, serving temperatures, glass choices and food pairings.

– TAK Stockholm's ambition is to introduce sake to Sweden in a way that truly does it justice. We simply want to show how versatile, accessible and exciting the drink is. The goal of Stockholm Sake Festival is to create a meeting place for knowledge and inspiration, both for the industry and the general public. TAK Stockholm has long been a pioneer when it comes to Nordic-Japanese gastronomy, and therefore it felt completely natural that we would be the ones to initiate this festival, says Daniel Pettersson, CEO of TAK Stockholm.

The Izakaya at TAK Stockholm is inspired by the bar streets of Shinjuku.

Festival-goers can expect an impressive line-up of respected breweries, visiting both from Japan and the world at large. These include Kobe Shu-shin-kan, Brooklyn Kura, Amabuki Brewery and Nabu Binjin Sake Brewery, alongside sake sommeliers and specialists eager to share their insights. Whether visitors are exploring their first sip or refining a well-versed palate, the festival offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from the makers and ambassadors shaping sake’s global resurgence.

Beyond sake, the festival will also explore Japanese culture more broadly. Highlights range from curated Japanese tea ceremonies and specialty coffee tastings, to showcases of artisanal design—like hand-thrown ceramics hailing from Tokyo’s famed Kappabashi kitchen district and traditional Japanese knives.

Several internationally recognized sake producers are visiting the Stockholm Sake Festival at TAK Stockholm.

A Nordic-Japanese Pioneer

TAK is the restaurant concept that has taken Nordic gastronomy to new heights—literally. The rooftop restaurant, translating to “roof” in Swedish, was the first stand-alone restaurant of Nordic Hotels & Resorts. It opened in 2017 on Brunkebergstorg to great acclaim, and is known today as a culinary institution. Here, the spotlight is aimed at the captivating meeting between Nordic and Japanese cuisine. The philosophy focuses on Nordic ingredients prepared with Japanese techniques, always with sustainability as its guiding light.

TAK consists of two floors in central Stockholm, with restaurant TAK, restaurant Izakaya, TAK Bar & Terrace, and the living room IMA.

The views from TAK Stockholm's terrace are unmatched.
