Sommerro, Amerikalinjen, and Hotel Brosundet Awarded MICHELIN Keys for 2026

For the second year running, Amerikalinjen and Sommerro in Oslo, and Hotel Brosundet in Ålesund have each been awarded a MICHELIN Key. Known as the hospitality counterpart to the long-established MICHELIN Star, the key rewards hotels on everything from architecture and personality to service and value.

Introduced in 2024, the MICHELIN Key has quickly become one of the defining accolades of hospitality. Earning one places a hotel among the best in the world, and a title is not permanent: each selection is re-assessed and carefully evaluated each year.

When MICHELIN published its first selection in the Nordic countries in 2025, Sommerro, Amerikalinjen, and Hotel Brosundet received a key. On September 18, 2026, it was confirmed that they hold on to them for another year.

The MICHELIN Key is awarded to hotels for architecture, personality, service, value, and a hotel's contribution to its own place. One of the traits that connects the three awarded hotels of Nordic Hotels & Resorts is their unique identities, rooted in history. All three hotels occupy historic buildings, and each has carried the heritage of its site into the present day—in brand as much as in architecture.

Sommerro, Oslo

Housed within the restored headquarters of Oslo’s former electric company, Sommerro is nothing short of an Art Deco dream. The building combines hotel rooms with cultural programming, a wide range of restaurants, and public spaces, functioning as a destination in the city as well as a place to stay.

Amerikalinjen, Oslo

Amerikalinjen occupies the former headquarters of the Norwegian America Line, the company that once carried Norwegian emigrants across the Atlantic toward new possibilities in the United States. That history of departure and ambition now runs through the hotel's restaurant, bar, and public spaces, giving it a character that reads as both local and international.

Hotel Brosundet, Ålesund

Brosundet is set in a former fish warehouse on Ålesund's harbor, its timber structure and maritime proportions preserved. The location itself is a big part of the draw: the Ålesund town was rebuilt largely in Art Nouveau style after a fire in 1904. Positioned as the gateway to the Geirangerfjord, today it attracts visitors from all over the world.
