Hotel Odeon in Odense Joins Nordic Hotels & Resorts, Marking a Milestone Expansion in Denmark
Nordic Hotels & Resorts expands to new markets, as we welcome the beautiful Hotel Odeon in Odense to the family. Hotel Odeon, with its 234 rooms, popular restaurant and decidedly Scandinavian design, is the first Danish property in Nordic Hotels & Resorts' portfolio outside of Copenhagen. It joins a group of Danish icons like Villa Copenhagen and Admiral Hotel.
The Nordic Hotels & Resorts ship has arrived at the port of Odense. Both a historical gem and a growing urban hub, Odense is the third biggest city of Denmark and one of the oldest cities of the Nordics. The picturesque city, the biggest one on the green Funen island, is rich in everything from castles and manors to vineyards and orchards.
Just under two hours from Copenhagen, this is the city that Hotel Odeon calls home. Its central location in Odense has made it an ideal starting point for explorers of Funen island since opening in 2018. The hotel is now joining Nordic Hotels & Resorts portfolio—making it our first Danish property outside of Copenhagen.
– It is with great pride that we join forces with the fantastic Hotel Odeon. Not only is the hotel worth the visit in and of itself, but it also sits in a city that never ceases to amaze new visitors from all over the world. I’m happy to be able to expand our operations to Odense and to Hotel Odeon, welcoming yet another design destination to the Nordic Hotels & Resorts family, says Henrik Berghult, Chief Operating Officer at Nordic Hotels & Resorts.
A Nordic Sensibility
Hotel Odeon is a celebration of Nordic modernity. Its 234 hotel rooms, ranging from Standard to Suites, exude a warm, stylish atmosphere. The design of the hotel is decidedly Scandinavian, following the principles of the New Nordic style. This means light palettes, spacious areas, and naturally exquisite materials.
Throughout the hotel, both Danish and Nordic design is showcased, framed by the characteristically cozy elegance that Denmark is known for. The hotel’s 4 meeting rooms, with room for up to 60 people in total, follow the same functional design language.
– The collaboration is a great recognition of Hotel Odeon and means that our guests in the future can look forward to a wide range of benefits through the company's loyalty program. At the same time, we will of course retain the same service and the cozy "home away from home" atmosphere that characterizes us. We look forward to welcoming both new and familiar faces to Funen and Odense, says Caroline Sørensen, General Manager at Hotel Odeon.
The city of Odense has a strong connection to H.C. Andersen, the Danish literary giant and storyteller. A frontman of the Danish Golden Age, H.C. Andersen was born in Odense in 1805. Today, his fairytales are arguably Denmark's greatest contribution to world culture. Some of Andersen’s most notable works include The Little Mermaid, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling, and many more.
Hotel Odeon is situated right in the middle of the cozy Hans Christian Andersen neighbourhood, named after the writer. All around the hotel, guests can explore the past of Andersen’s life. Just a stone’s throw from the hotel, the innovative Hans Christian Andersen’s House—Odense’s newest and biggest museum attraction—has opened. The hotel also finds itself surrounded by some of the best culture this island has to offer, like the ODEON Music and Theatre Center, as well as the Odense Concert Hall. Additionally, the main railway station is just a few minutes walk away, with shopping, restaurants, and Odense’s many quaint streets never far away.
Nordic Philosophy Meets Bistro Classics
Odense has a sprawling restaurant scene, with Hotel Odeon’s restaurant H.C. by Meyers being part of this culinary wave. H.C. by Meyers has its roots firmly planted in the traditions of Nordic cuisine, while at the same time taking inspiration from flavors all around the world, enhancing the seasonal produce from the Danish kitchen garden.
The kitchen varies with the offerings of the season and the mood of the day. Starting with a healthy buffet in the morning, the lunch centers around traditional Danish open sandwiches (but here with a twist), culminating in the evenings with a proudly Nordic kitchen and bistro classics.
H.C. by Meyers is run by Meyers Group, headed by Claus Meyer. Meyer is known, among other things, as one of the founders of Noma, the renowned three-Michelin-star restaurant in Copenhagen. Staying true to its heritage, restaurant H.C. by Meyers works with locally sourced and sustainable produce, putting greens high up in the plate hierarchy.
A Milestone Expansion
Hotel Odeon marks Nordic Hotels & Resorts’ first property in Odense. It joins other Danish, design-centric landmarks in the portfolio like the casually opulent Villa Copenhagen and the historically grand Admiral Hotel, both in central Copenhagen. Soon, in the fall of 2025, Nordic Hotels & Resorts opens Hobo Hotel Copenhagen, the fourth and last iteration of the success concept that has taken the Nordics by storm.
– It is incredibly exciting to cement a wider presence on the Danish market, and in such a vibrant city as Odense. Denmark has long been one of, if not the most, popular destinations in northern Europe. This beautiful country keeps on surpassing travelers' expectations, and Hotel Odeon is a milestone acquisition for us at Nordic Hotels & Resorts, says Henrik Berghult, Chief Operating Officer at Nordic Hotels & Resorts.
Hotel Odeon enters Nordic Hotels & Resorts on March 4, 2025.
